When it comes to my artwork I’m most definitely filed under multi-disciplinary. I’m drawn to interactive new media, my Flash projects tend to be collage-based incorporating traditional art techniques with digital photography, Photoshop and Illustrator art work. The juxtaposition of digital and traditional art brings a tactility to my projects, humanising them. My Creative project is a flash animation , the piece is collage based, an abstract interpretation based on the elements of the Chinese Zodiac.
The black and white photographs in my portfolio are taken from my Brandenburg Series, while participating in the UWS Intercultural Design Camp, I produced these digital photographs while visiting the old Brandenburg Steelworks. I find manmade structures visually fascinating, it constantly amazing me the way a photograph can change a monstrous construct of steel and concrete into a stunning representation of tone and light, the texture and line becomes so dominant to the eye and you begin to look at objects in a new way. When I started out at Ayr College doing my HNC Art and Design, my chosen subject matter was motorbikes, in the same way , I was fascinated, I spent a year drawing engines and spark plugs, taking photographs of motorbikes and it made me realise that you can find beauty in just about anything, if you look hard enough.
